Thaiger: Two Ugandan women arrested on Koh Phangan in prostitution crackdown. Yesterday, March 1, the Legacy tourist police arrested two Ugandan women on Koh Phangan in Suratthani after an Israeli tourist reported a suspected theft linked to suspected prostitution. The arrests followed a complaint from an Israeli tourist who claimed his belongings went missing after using a service offered by a Ugandan woman, allegedly involved in prostitution. The sting operation was led by the 5th Tourist Police Division, working in collaboration with local administrative officials and other relevant agencies. Staff agreed to purchase services from the two women and entered the room after receiving a pre-arranged signal. During the search, police said two suspects were found inside the room with another male tourist who allegedly arrived earlier to use their services. Photo via MGR Online. The suspects were identified as 32-year-old Janet and 29-year-old Mariam, both Ugandan nationals. Tourist police collected evidence from the room before taking the couple to the tourist police station for questioning. Two women confessed that they came to Koh Phangan as tourists but used the island as a base to hide their illegal sex services for over two months. It is reported that they had an average of three to four foreign clients a day, totaling over 180 clients in the last two months, and it is claimed that they earned an average of up to 500,000 baht a month. The collected money was sent to their family in Uganda, reports MGR Online. Photo via MGR Online. The police said that the couple has been charged with collecting for prostitution for their own benefit or the benefit of others, as well as advertising or soliciting prostitution. Similarly, the Phuket Immigration Bureau arrested five Ugandan women for allegedly offering sex services in the Patong entertainment area after reports from the public about their activities.
