Tourist Boat Catches Fire in Makham Bay on Phuket's South Coast A speedboat operated by Love Andaman caught fire while docked in Makham Bay on Phang Nga Cape in the late afternoon of May 10. According to officials and the company itself, no one was injured in the blaze. The @speedboat, named Juliet, was completely destroyed by the fire, but Love Andaman assured that the loss of the boat would not affect the scheduled May 11 trips. The fire in Ao-Makham started at 17:25, when the Juliet operated by Love Andaman was moored in the bay. The crew had finished their trips and disembarked at the time of the fire, so there was no one on board when it started. Other nearby boats were absent. Extinguishing the Juliet took around 20 minutes, carried out by rescue teams from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO). However, as stated in the PR Phuket message, it was not possible to save the boat. "At the time of the fire extinguishing, only the fiberglass hull of the boat remained on the water. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the incident," the PR Phuket message reads. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The investigation is being conducted by the Vichit Police Station, which is responsible for the Phang Nga Cape area. "Regarding the causes of the incident, the company is fully cooperating with the Vichit Police and forensic experts to determine them. "The actual findings will be publicly announced based on the results of the investigation, and proactive security measures will be taken based on them," Love Andaman said in a press release. The company's publication of statements is in itself an example of openness that is atypical for the Phuket tourism business. The fire on board the Love Andaman boat was at least the third (!) incident in Ao Makham Bay since the beginning of 2026 and at least the fourth in Phuket. ▫️On February 11, the Cognac 75 yacht, owned by Once Yachting, sank in Ao Makham Bay. There were no tourists on board at the time of the incident. The cause of the incident has not yet been named. ▫️On April 6, the Tequila boat, owned by Once Yachting, caught fire in Ao Makham Bay. As a result of the fire, one person died and five were hospitalized. The cause of the incident has not yet been named. ▫️On January 7, more than 20 speedboats from various operators, left overnight on the shore, burned down in Chalong Bay. No one was injured in the incident, but the material damage was estimated at tens of millions of baht. The cause of the incident has not yet been named. ▫️Several more fires on the Phuket tourist fleet occurred in 2025. One of them took place in Chalong Bay, the other on Racha Yai Island. In the latter case, several tourists from Russia received burns, which was confirmed by the Consulate General. But nothing is also known about the causes of the incidents.
