The Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya: a 105-meter-high wooden wonder under construction for 45 years

The Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya is one of the most unique landmarks in Thailand and all of Asia. The temple, 105 meters high, is entirely carved from wood, assembled without nails, and has been under construction for 45 years using funds from a local businessman and donations. The architecture combines Thai, Indian, Chinese, and Khmer styles. Construction began in 1981 on the initiative of Thai entrepreneur Lek Viriyaphan. The temple is not a religious structure in the traditional sense—it is a philosophical and cultural project dedicated to the unity of world religions and the harmony of humans with nature. All decorative elements are hand-carved from precious woods, including teak and padauk. Guided tours and traditional Thai performances are regularly held on the temple grounds. Visitors can observe the work of woodcarvers who continue to adorn the building with new sculptures and ornaments. The temple is open to visitors daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The entrance fee for adults is 500 baht, and for children, 250 baht. Modest dress is recommended, covering shoulders and knees, as the site is considered culturally significant.
