Thai police have intensified the fight against cross-border online fraud financing networks and conducted a series of raids in Bangkok, resulting in the detention of a group of Vietnamese citizens suspected of providing money laundering services through cryptocurrencies for fraudulent groups. On May 24, 2026, police reported that the Sixth District Investigation Department, based on a warrant issued by the Phitsanulok Court, conducted simultaneous searches of an upscale apartment in the Ratchathewi district and a luxury home in the Huai Khwang district. The aim of the raids was to identify a money laundering network behind cross-border fraud groups. During the operation, four Vietnamese citizens (two men and two women) were detained. Eight mobile phones, four laptops, expensive photographic equipment, gold jewelry, and safes were seized. The total value of the seized items is estimated at approximately 160,000 baht. According to police, one of the luxury homes was used as a hideout for suspects in hiding, and the upscale apartment in the Ratchathewi district was used by the group to conceal and transfer fraudulent funds. A preliminary examination of electronic devices showed that the group was engaged in cross-border currency exchange and transfer of digital assets (cryptocurrencies), receiving instructions directly from a "command center" in Vietnam via Telegram. Further investigation revealed that the suspects used the Vietnamese electronic wallet platform "Momo" to transfer funds, using multi-level transfers and virtual currency exchange to help fraudulent groups conceal the sources of illegal funds and launder money. Currently, Thai police have filed preliminary charges against the four suspects for "illegal work by foreigners (without a work permit)" and transferred them to the Phaya Thai police station for further investigation.
